Right when we moved into our house, we knew we wanted to paint it white. Something about white houses has always been my favorite. As it turned out, we got lucky because the roof and gutters had hail damage and needed to be replaced. That was the best news! We picked out black shingles and copper gutters and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. It was my excuse to redecorate and thanks to the insurance policy, it was all covered.
Here is what I bought for both my front and back porch in case you want a more modern look and feel for those places! Right by our front door, there is 100% shade, no sun and what I bought kept dying. I opted for faux topiaries instead and that was a great solution. I have never in my life utilized faux plants outside. In fact, that thought was even really weird to me at first.
One trend that hit last summer and has stayed around is this fun idea of layering rugs. I really love it! I layered a thin cotton mat underneath and good news, it’s washable.
To be honest, I don’t spend enough time outside. I’m the one you would describe as “indoors-y”. Yesterday though, the sun started breaking through and the kids were jumping on the trampoline. I casually strolled out to watch them and before long, “Moooooom! Come jump with us.” (I’m thinking, umm…do you know the kind of bladder control that would require??”) I hesitated, of course. And then, I couldn’t think of a good excuse not to so I started jumping. Before long, my out of shape self had been jumping and giggling with them for thirty minutes. I think I fall into overthinking sometimes and making excuses for why I can’t stop to play right then. But, I hope I continue to not just love my kids in words but really show up for them and just simply, have fun.
